What are LEPs? 39 LEPs have been formed by government since October 2010. The objective is to bring together local authorities and the private sector to help to promote grass-roots economic recovery; to stimulate job creation and growth according to local priorities.
The fact that NEP was awarded LEP status is recognition of the organisation's established and strong track record. LEP status enabled a much improved platform for raising local business issues, needs and successes at a national level. LEP status also opens up crucial communication channels with key decision makers, and in turn gives the county improved recognition within central government.
One of the other major potential benefits is that as a LEP, we expect to see greater opportunities for Northamptonshire businesses as a result of better overall access to government opportunities for investment.
The significant focus that central government has placed on LEPs as a way of driving economic recovery at a local level puts Northamptonshire and its business community firmly at the forefront of the UK’s growth agenda. That can only be a good thing for business and a good thing for Northamptonshire.
"We’ve had exceptionally good support from NEP in areas of our business such as apprenticeships, training and business development. Their local knowledge and networking adds real value and this model could easily be extended to other support areas such as export and technical training. Presenting at the LEP conference was a great opportunity for us to showcase our company and the work of NEP".
