An awards scheme to champion effective use of social media by small businesses has won the backing of Northamptonshire’s foremost business support organisation.
Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership (NEP) has been unveiled as the primary sponsor of the Citrus Social Media Awards, launched by Orange Juice Communications and Zest Communications to celebrate all those across the UK who have embraced social media to transform their businesses.
The scheme aims to reward everyone from start-ups who have had to build relationships from scratch to established companies who have reached out to a whole new audience.
Colin Lewis, Business Support Manager at NEP, said: "When we heard about these awards we knew straight away it was something we wanted to get involved with. They are clearly in line with NEP’s remit to support the development and prosperity of small businesses.
Incredibly cost-efficient way to market your company
“Social media is an incredibly effective and cost-efficient way to market your company and lend it the potential for growth and job creation. It’s refreshing to see good work in this field being recognised and rewarded.”
The awards are designed to encourage small to medium businesses and young entrepreneurs to showcase their achievements and be recognised both nationally and locally.
Orange Juice Director, Daniel Owens, said: “These awards are a chance to recognise those who use Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and many others imaginatively and effectively to really make a difference to their bottom line.
“It’s wonderful to have the full support of NEP, who do a great job themselves helping launch dozens of new businesses in Northamptonshire. We’re looking forward to seeing plenty of local entrants and it promises to be a fantastic platform for our eventual winners.”
The awards will feature seven different categories, including ‘Post of the Year’, ‘Most Innovative Use of Social Media’ and ‘Social Media Practitioner of the Year’. The deadline for entries is 4th October.
Shortlisted finalists will be invited to attend an awards evening at Kilworth House in Leicestershire on 7th November with the emphasis very much on fun and innovation rather than black ties and stuffy suits.
Libby Langley of Zest Communications said: “We are passionate about social media and we want to hear more about some of the brilliant ways businesses are using social media day in, day out to attract new customers, build their audience and ultimately make more money.
“We’ve been delighted with the initial response and we’ve had entries from across the country. It promises to be a really special night.”
