Helen Errington, Head of HR at Church’s said: ‘It is really important to create a wide range of opportunities that attract and foster young talent for the sustainability and growth of Church’s as well as manufacturing across Northamptonshire as a whole.
‘This is why we are once again embarking on our apprenticeship programme in association with NEP’s Job Broker team who do all the hard work in assisting us to recruit and retain apprentices of exceptional standard year on year.’
A sustainable career in footwear
The Job Broker team’s unique and bespoke approach to finding candidates best suited to the specific criteria of employers together with Church’s renowned training and development programme has attracted numerous quality candidates many of whom have been given the chance to achieve, gain confidence and progress a sustainable career in footwear.
The glow in the faces of Church’s first year apprentices as they presented their personal journey to potential apprentices last year sent a real message of hope.
Jake Seal and Tatum Arzu were apprentices from the first scheme. Tatum was straight from school and Jake was previously unemployed. Jake said: ‘When you’re unemployed, you get used to that as being the way it is. When I look back now, I see things from a totally different perspective. Having such a great opportunity and earning my own money is such a big motivator.’
A further two apprentices will make their presentation to this years’ eager candidates. Tyler Arzu (brother of Tatum) and Ashley Walter both started their apprenticeships in 2013. Ashley’s ambition is to be involved in the design of the shoes.
Over the last two years, 10 apprentices secured their career starts at Church’s through NEP. This year, there are 6-8 further positions available offering 16-24 year-olds an intensive training programme of up to two years. This involves learning how to make world-class quality shoes from start to finish whilst earning up to £257 per week.
