NEP has announced the launch of a new call for projects as part of its Growing Places programme – a revolving infrastructure fund designed to kick-start stalled housing and commercial developments and support economic growth.
The Growing Places fund was announced by Government in October 2011 as an essential measure to realise the nation’s ambition for continued housing and economic growth. NEP was allocated £5.8m to direct towards targeted investment in pieces of infrastructure which unlock development, bring forward stalled sites and create new commercial floorspace and housing across the county.
Since 2011, NEP has invested funding in a variety of projects across the county, supporting a mixture of highways infrastructure improvements, regeneration of redundant buildings for commercial use, construction of new education facilities to support housing development and opening up new commercial and housing land for development through enabling site access.
Expressions of interest invited
NEP is now re-launching the programme with an initial pot of £1.1m and Expressions of Interest are therefore invited for schemes which are currently stalled or in development, which can be supported and brought forward with investment from the Growing Places programme.
In particular, schemes should demonstrate how they bring forward housing and/or commercial development, supporting economic growth and leading directly to job creation in the county. Projects may also be considered to support economic growth and business expansion through investment in capital machinery, or to support projects not yet ‘shovel ready’ to overcome final barriers to detailed feasibility, site investigations or planning through supporting some of the capital costs associated with this stage of project development.
Unprecedented growth and prosperity
Sajeeda Rose, Chief Operating Officer at NEP, said “We are delighted to be able to launch this new call for projects as part of NEP’s Growing Places programme. Northamptonshire has a bold ambition, set out in the Strategic Economic Plan, for unprecedented growth and prosperity for our businesses, people and communities. This level of growth will see an additional 32,500 jobs created, 1,600 new businesses started and 37,000 new housing built, helping meet the current and future housing needs of all of our communities. Growing Places funding is a vital mechanism to help realise this goal.”
How to apply
Interested parties should request an application pack from NEP, which will contain detailed information on how to apply for Growing Places funding and an Expression of Interest Form – the deadline for submissions is Friday 16th January 2015. Projects will be prioritised that can demonstrate a high probability of a start on site within 12 months of application.
